Married with two children, two stepchildren, ten grandchildren, and one much-loved furry companion in Edmonton, Alberta, Linda is stepping into retirement with a spirit of joy, adventure, and meaningful connection. Through Sole Sister Ramblers, she has discovered wonderful friendships, laughter, pickleball, kayaking, learning, and the reassuring reminder that some of life’s best chapters may still lie ahead.
Where did you grow up, and what did you like or dislike about that place?
Born in Scotland and raised in Canada. I love both countries. I missed growing up with my Grannies, Grandad, aunties, uncles, and cousins, but I’m grateful for the many opportunities Canada has given me.
What are you proudest of?
As a high school dropout and teenage mom, I proudly completed two university degrees with honours while raising two children on my own. I successfully built and ran two companies (and still have one), paid off my house, and am now excited to see retirement on the horizon.
What qualities do you value most in people now?
Honesty, a sense of self, courage, kindness, and humour.
What would you like younger generations to understand?
Life is limited in time. That means becoming “healthily selfish” and living each day to enjoy every moment for yourself and with those you choose to have in your life. Know your worth and your value. Don’t expect others to take care of your needs. Become strong, confident, competent, and trust yourself.
What do you want to be remembered for?
Being kind, a brave warrior and survivor, funny, adventurous, and determined despite the odds.
What music still makes you want to dance?
Most music makes me want to dance. I can’t sit still, no matter the time, place, or activity I’m doing. Whether I’m driving, working, shopping, or just walking through life… I boogie on!
