Browless Brenda’s Eyebrows — Dear Sole Sisters

The Dear Sole Sisters advice column is a place where women can ask questions and get advice from the women of the Sole Sister Ramblers community.

Dear Sole Sister,

My eyebrows are disappearing!

They used to be full and dark, but somewhere between menopause and my 60th birthday, they began quietly abandoning my face. Now they are thin, patchy, and almost nonexistent at the ends.

I’ve tried eyebrow pencils and powders, but getting them even is a daily challenge.

One eyebrow always ends up higher than the other, and some mornings I look permanently surprised!

I’m thinking about getting eyebrow tattoos, but I’m nervous. I’ve heard about microblading, powder brows, and permanent makeup, but I don’t really understand the difference.

Do they look natural on older skin? Does it hurt? How long do they last, and what happens if the colour or shape doesn’t turn out the way I hoped?

I don’t want giant, dark eyebrows that arrive in the room five minutes before I do. I just want to look like I have eyebrows again!

Have any of my wise Sole Sisters had their eyebrows tattooed? Were you happy with the results, and what should I know before taking the plunge?

What’s a gal to do?

Sincerely,
Browless Brenda

  • Microblading. Very fine tattoos that last a year or so. Then they will need touchups. I didn’t think it hurt - it was more of an itchy/tickling feeling when it was being done.

  • I’ve started getting my eyebrows dyed and I love it! Takes about 30 mins and min last about 6-8 weeks. I’m to nervous to go for tattoo or microblading.

  • LOL, I went for bigger glasses, so I barely notice the receding eyebrows. That said, I don't wear makeup either, so not everyone's cup-a-tea.

  • Eyebrow thinning on the ends should be investigated I’ve heard - check thyroid, ferritin

  • Castor oil on both brows and eyelashes

  • I’m getting powder brows done on Saturday.

  • I would recommend brow lamination combined with brow tinting. It is regarded as the most natural cosmetic procedure for eyebrow thinning.

It is a temporary, semipermanent treatment that typically lasts up to 6-8 weeks depending on your hair growth.

  • I use lash growth serum on my eyelashes and brows. I use UK lash. Not sure where you live but it works really well. I don’t bother with the brow serum I just put the lash serum on both.

  • I got the tattoo version, but only because the person who did mine was a very skilled “permanent makeup” artist, who went with an ashy brown colour and used an application technique that was, basically, microblading. I go in every 2-3 years for touch-ups, as they do fade a bit…but I am thrilled with them…9 years later! My brow hairs tend to grow in long and straggly, so serums on the brow are a hard no for me.

  • Maybe check nutrition as somehow mine are a bit thicker as they were getting quite thin its also sign of low thyroid

  • I had mine tattooed and got them lasered off…..do not recommend!!
I found a lady that does beautiful micro blading and fixed what the previous person messed up. I get them redone every 2 years due to fading. Absolutely worth the expense. I’m blonde and my eyebrows are white, this gives my face a bit of colour.

Please shop around, get references, I see so many ladies go to whomever they first see and get a botched job after paying $600

  • Honestly I would first go on YouTube and watch some videos
