Born in Bacchus Marsh, Australia, and now calling Reading, UK home, Sara Ratchford is an energetic, nature-loving explorer who thrives outdoors. Whether she’s walking by a river, discovering a new trail, or lost in a good book, her enthusiasm for life is contagious.
What age are you, and what age do you feel?
I’m 49 but feel about 25—I constantly forget how old I am! I work with a lot of younger people, and they’re often surprised by how much energy I have compared to them.
Is there something that you would like your Sole Sisters to know about aging from where you are right now?
I’ll be 50 next year, and I’m totally embracing it. I plan to spend the whole year celebrating! Age is just a number, and I feel incredibly lucky to have good health. I’ve always been a positive person and try to look on the bright side in every situation.
What do you most like to do in your spare time?
I’m an avid reader, usually finishing two to three books a week. I enjoy all sorts of genres and take a book everywhere I go. I love the feel of a real book in my hands and am a regular at my local library.
What is your favorite time of year and why?
I love all seasons. You can walk the same trail several times and still find something new each time—the ever-changing beauty of nature never ceases to amaze me.
What is the best advice you ever got?
The best advice I’ve ever received is: “Don’t let life get in the way of living,” and “There are so many beautiful reasons to be happy.”
Where is your favorite place to ramble, and why do you love it?
I enjoy rambling anywhere! A town walk is lovely, especially when there are interesting buildings to admire. I’m also drawn to rivers and lakes—the water feels soothing and deeply relaxing.
