What is Trail Magic?

We love #trailmagic at Sole Sister Ramblers. It is one of our favorite joys of rambling.

Trail magic is beauty randomly discovered while rambling that elicits joy.
When humans create trail magic, it is shared freely without the expectation of credit or kudos. It is generous, sometimes poignant, and always creative. Most importantly, it elicits delight and sometimes even restores one's faith in humanity.

The term' trail magic' was initially used to describe the unexpected acts of kindness and support delivered to hikers on the Appalachian Trail in the United States. This famous trail, spanning 2,200 miles, is a multi-month adventure for some intrepid ramblers. The term' Trail Magic' was adopted to describe the unforeseen help and support offered to hikers by locals, and it's a concept we've embraced in our own rambling community.

For us, Trail Magic takes many forms, from public art and graffiti to beautiful store windows and architecture to fairy doors and wood sculptures hidden in the base of trees to lending a hiking pole to a stranger you know cannot return it.
