Claire Prescott- Rambler Profile

Claire Prescott, originally from Taunton, Somerset, UK, and now happily rooted in Toronto, Canada, is a youthful, reflective 50-year-old rediscovering herself after several challenging years. A water-loving Rambler and passionate swimmer, she’s kind, caring, and always striving to trust her intuition a little more each day.

Where did you grow up, and what did you like or dislike about that place?

I grew up in a small, sleepy town called Taunton in Somerset, UK. Although it’s the county town, you wouldn’t know it—it lacks the charm and bustle of other quaint British towns, which is what I’ve always disliked. What I love, though, is that my family is still there, making it easy to see everyone whenever I return to the UK.

Is there something that you would like your Sole Sisters to know about aging from where you are right now?

Aging seems to creep up faster than you expect. At 39, the first noticeable shift I experienced was a decline in my eyesight, which led to the need for progressive lenses (formerly called varifocals). A few years later, other changes appeared — I found myself worrying more about what others thought, second-guessing my instincts, and slipping into patterns of self-doubt. Trusting my intuition no longer came easily; it arrived tangled in overthinking.

What five words would you use to describe yourself?

Kind, Caring, empathetic, a big kid at heart, mindful (or maybe I should say overthinker!)

What do you most like to do in your spare time?

Swimming is my biggest passion, I absolutely love it, and love any time I am near or on the
water. Swimming is my 'me' time, where I can disconnect and focus solely on my stroke, speed, or accuracy when executing flip turns.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

If I could choose any superpower, it would be invisibility. When I worked as a nursing leader on the pediatric brain injury unit, I was often late for meetings because I lacked an invisibility cloak—and my colleague and I would joke that being invisible would make us far more efficient at our jobs.

What was the best day of your life?

Without a doubt, the best day of my life was my wedding day. I was marrying my best friend, my sole mate, the one who makes me whole and sees me for who I am. Getting married in a beautiful church and then having a wedding reception at a winery right in the heart of Niagara’s wine country with my friends and family watching was truly the best day ever.
