Adele Kostura- Rambler Profile

Adele Kostura- Rambler Profile

Adele Kostura was born in a small town in Saskatchewan, where she spent her early years on a family farm alongside her six siblings—an upbringing that shaped her resilience and deep sense of home, even through early loss and change. While those prairie roots remain part of who she is, Edmonton, Alberta, is where she built her life and calls home.

Where is your favourite place to ramble and why do you love it?

I enjoy Rambling pretty much anywhere—from quiet, forested paths to quirky urban streets—but being near water is probably my favourite. I find water both invigorating and peaceful at once; even a cascading waterfall has something soothing about it. While I love being near or on the water, I’m not so keen on being in it. I find not being able to touch the bottom somewhat terrifying

What advice would you give your younger self?

You don’t need to have that “one thing” that defines who you are. If there’s something that truly fires you up and you want to go all in, that’s great—but it’s also perfectly okay to try many things and not be an expert, or even particularly skilled, in any of them. I’d give my not-so-young self this same advice!

What is the best advice you ever got?

I have a friend who regularly says “best day ever”—and truly believes it. In a recent conversation about my fast-approaching retirement, that same friend reminded me to enjoy my remaining time at work, because once you retire, that chapter is gone. So really, it’s advice about being present and making a conscious choice to fully appreciate where you are right now.

What makes you laugh every time?

When I read this question, the first thing that popped into my head was my maternal grandmother’s wee giggle. It was absolutely infectious. She raised a family of fun-loving, quick-to-laugh humans, and I have to think that giggle was a big part of why. When I think about her giggle, or the more boisterous laughter of several of her children, I can’t help but smile.

What qualities do you value most in people now?

Positivity and happiness—not forced, but the kind that comes from people who are truly enjoying where they are. It’s so easy to slip into negativity or get caught up in others’ judgment, which is why I so admire and enjoy being around those who see the good in people and bring a sense of brightness with them.

I really love how welcoming and unpretentious the women I’ve met through Sole Sisters are. It’s a very relaxed space—a group where you can simply be yourself.
