Just like anyone else’s life, mine has its highs and lows. Lately, it’s been more of a struggle than a song. Thankfully, I’m surrounded by friends and family who know just when to lift me up—and last night, one of them did just that.
A dear friend surprised me with tickets to see David Byrne at Massey Hall. Truthfully, I wasn’t in the mood for a concert. But thank goodness I went.
Massey Hall, with its intimate size and perfect acoustics, is a Toronto treasure. There’s something about walking through those doors—the hum of anticipation, the collective joy—that immediately changes your mood.
David Byrne and his 12-piece band met that energy with open arms. His Who Is the Sky? tour radiates love, curiosity, and playfulness, the kind that only Byrne can deliver.
Dressed uniformly in soft blue suits, Byrne and his band blended music, movement, and meaning into one fluid experience. Each performer was outfitted with harnessed percussion instruments and wireless keyboards, while headset microphones allowed complete freedom of motion.
The stage, stripped of wires and visual clutter, became a living canvas—dynamic yet minimalist. What unfolded was not just a concert but a fully choreographed spectacle, equal parts rock show and musical theatre.

The new songs—such as My Apartment Is My Friend—spoke of solitude, safety, and connection, while classics like This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) and Once in a Lifetime reminded us that joy and reflection can coexist.
By the encore—Burning Down the House—the entire hall was on its feet, grinning ear to ear. I left feeling lighter, brighter, and profoundly grateful. Byrne’s creativity and warmth reminded me: sometimes, the best way to find yourself again is to dance.
I've created this PLAYLIST for you to enjoy!
