Pushing Past Limits: Lessons From the Camino- Bonnie Boucher

Pushing Past Limits: Lessons From the Camino- Bonnie Boucher

Bonnie Boucher was born in Bathurst, raised on the Gaspé Peninsula, and now resides in Calgary, where she is embracing a slower, more intentional chapter of life centered around connection, curiosity, and joy.

Six days.
117 kilometers.

One very clear lesson: we’re capable of far more than we think.

Stepping outside my comfort zone and committing fully to the 2025 Camino in Spain changed something in me. Not just physically—though my legs definitely noticed—but mentally and emotionally as well. When you decide to show up, one step at a time, something shifts. Mindset becomes everything.

There were moments when the distance felt ambitious (okay, daunting), but preparation, focus, and a quiet confidence kept me moving forward. The Camino demanded endurance, presence, and adaptability. It asked me to stay in the moment, to listen to my body, and to trust myself—especially when things felt hard.

Along the way, I discovered strength I didn’t know I had. I also found unexpected clarity, gratitude, and a sense of calm. Walking among others on their own journeys—each with different reasons for being there—created a powerful sense of connection. Even as strangers, we shared encouragement, laughter, and a common determination. Community has a way of forming when people choose to keep going together.

One phrase stayed with me the entire journey:
“We can do hard things.” — Glennon Doyle

It’s simple, but it’s true. Challenges—whether chosen or unexpected—become opportunities when we meet them with focus and belief. The Camino reminded me that growth lives just beyond comfort, and that resilience is built step by step.

If you’re facing something difficult right now, consider leaning into it. Say yes. Welcome the stretch. How we meet challenges shapes who we become—our confidence, our compassion, and our capacity to keep moving forward.

Change will always happen. Growth, though, is a choice. And the reward? It’s waiting on the other side!

With deep love and gratitude to my sister Lori for walking every step beside me, to Sole Sisters for creating such a meaningful experience, and to the incredible women who shared this journey.
“We can do hard things.”
