Sylvia Folkers 🇺🇸 Rambler Profile

Sylvia Linda Folkers is a lifelong learner, avid hiker, and proud advocate for women, originally from Dyer, Indiana, and now calling Lee’s Summit, Missouri home. Her greatest joy is being Mimi to her grandbaby Montie, and her greatest strength lies in lifting others as she climbs.

What thing in your life had the most impact on who you are now?

The one thing that has had the most significant impact on my life—and on the woman I am today—is losing my mom. She was my rock. Her love, guidance, and quiet strength were always a steady presence in my life. When she passed, I had to find a new kind of strength inside myself. That loss changed me. It made me reflect more deeply, love more fiercely, and carry her lessons forward in all I do.

What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done?

Divorcing after 25 years of marriage was the bravest thing I’ve ever done. It was one of the most challenging decisions of my life, but it was also the one that led me to the most fulfilling chapter I’ve known so far. That choice gave me the freedom to pursue my dream of working in special education—something I had always wanted to do but had never given myself permission to chase. Today, I work with children who remind me daily of the power of perseverance and purpose.

What is your favorite place to Ramble and why?

My favorite place to ramble is in the woods—hiking, surrounded by trees, with nothing but the sound of leaves beneath my feet and birds overhead. When I’m out there, I feel completely alive. The woods are where I go to clear my head, find peace, and reconnect with what matters most. Nature reminds me that we’re part of something much bigger—and that beauty can be found in the quiet, in the stillness, and in each step.

What is the best thing that happened to you recently?

The best thing that’s happened to me recently? Becoming a Mimi! My baby granddaughter, Montie, has brought so much joy into my life. Her arrival has reminded me of how precious new beginnings are. Watching her grow and being part of her world fills me with gratitude and hope.

What is your favorite time of year and why?

Fall is, without question, my favorite time of year. I love hiking in the cool, crisp air, breathing in the scent of fallen leaves, and soaking up the stunning colors of autumn. There’s something about that shift—the turning of the season—that feels so aligned with my own rhythm. It’s a time to reflect, to shed, and to begin again.

What makes you a grown-ass woman?

What makes me a grown-ass woman is my ability to lift up other women—to help them see the best in themselves, even when they can’t see it yet. I encourage women to try new things, to step into their power, and to trust that they are enough. I know firsthand how important it is to have someone cheering you on. We are stronger together. Always.
