Charline LeBlanc, from Hamilton, Ontario, is a mom, teacher, and recent empty nester exploring the next chapter of her life. In her “why not” phase, she’s embracing new adventures, staying active, and proving it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.
What do you most like to do in your spare time?
I love cozy mornings with a good book and a great cup of coffee, but most of all, I love being active. Weight training, walking, and hiking are my staples, but I also enjoy trying new things—most recently pole dancing, aerial hoop, and sling acrobatics. This is definitely my “why not” phase of life.
What are your favorite all-time books?
Some of my favourites include The Midnight Library, The Geography of Bliss, and The Island of Sea Women.
What are the top 5 things on your bucket list?
-
Spend a month in the northern territories in January to experience the 24-hour night, the Northern Lights, and the celebration of first sunrise.
-
Travel to the Swiss Alps and complete at least three Via Ferrata routes.
-
Visit the Philippines with my daughter (who is half Filipino) to experience the culture she has always longed to know.
-
Travel to Antarctica—the final continent I have yet to step foot on.
-
Live abroad for a minimum of six months to fully immerse myself in a different culture.
What is the most sentimental thing in your home?
My two Siberian Huskies, Loki and Freya. They get me out the door every day for walks, and they give me endless unconditional love and cuddles.
What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
In 2022, I traveled to Iceland on my own. I rented a car, circled the entire country, and spent nights in small cottages along the way. Those two weeks were some of the most empowering and freeing days of my life.
What thing in your life had the most impact on who you are now?
My jump rope journey completely transformed my life. In 2016, I was 200 lbs and struggling with my health when I discovered competitive jump rope through my daughter. I picked up a rope that fall, and from there became not only a certified judge but also a competitor and coach.
By 2017, I had lost 60 lbs and began competing—earning podium spots at regional, provincial, national, and even world competitions in the 30+ category. My last world competition was in 2021 at age 50, where I proudly earned two gold medals and a bronze.
That journey taught me that anything is possible, that it’s never too late to start over, and that with determination there truly are no limits to what we can achieve.
