A Spontaneous Real Life Ramble - Naomi Weisman

Perth, 🇦🇺 - Naomi Weisman

Naomi Weisman is a Canadian-Australian and mother of three who loves to ramble with her dog, cook for family and friends, and laugh whenever possible.

I have been flying to Australia to visit family regularly for quite a few years now. Last year (2022), many of you followed my rambles throughout Victoria and New South Wales, which included the first-ever In Real Life Sole Sister Ramble in Australia with Colleen McCutcheon and Julie Davidson.

This year, I was in Western Australia, visiting family in Perth. My lovely cousin Lee Sammels and I had plans for me to stay at her place, visit with her kids and granddaughter, and enjoy a couple of rambles around her hometown.

Lately, SSR has welcomed several new members from Australia to its ranks, including a few in Perth. For those unfamiliar with Western Australia, it is an enormous state with gorgeous vineyards, white sand beaches, vast stretches of desert, and mining - the economy's lifeblood.

Lee lives near a historic area south of Perth called Fremantle. It is a port town with gorgeous beaches, pubs, award-winning restaurants, and many nature trails.

I was only in town for a few days but managed, via our fabulous Sole Sister Ramblers Facebook Group, to virtually connect with a Perth-based sole sister named Peta Beaton. So Lee and I invited Peta for an in-person ramble. We met at the Cape Peron parking lot, or 'carpark' in Aussie lingo. Lee and I had never met Peta, but we are all friends now!

We had much to distract us on our ramble. The scenery is absolutely stunning, with rugged rocks, white sand beaches, and many shades of blue in the water.

We also ran into a few characters along the way, such as a scuba diver with a giant underwater camera and a face full of disappointment at not finding what he was looking for - a dragon, which is a very exotic-looking seahorse; a fisherman dangerously perched out on the rocks whose wife didn't want him coming home before a particular hour; and a swimmer who wears a belt around his waist to deter the sharks from trying to eat him.

We did not walk or swim any great distances. Still, we talked about many things, learned a lot about one another, and were inspired by each other's intelligence, past experiences, and hopes for the future.

I hope this was the first of many in-person rambles in the Perth area. I will be back in March of 2024 and will definitely be a part of another one. I hope to meet more Sole Sisters then!
