Trying (TV Series) - Nomi's Pics

Naomi Weisman is a Canadian-Australian and mother of three who loves to ramble with her dog, cook for family and friends, and laugh whenever possible.

Trying isn't just another show; it's a rare gem that offers a heartwarming escape from the relentless barrage of negativity in today's news cycle. With its seamless fusion of friendship, humor, and a deeply resonant message, Trying stands out as a must-watch series.

Nikki (played by Esther Smith) and Jason (portrayed by Rafe Spall) aren't just characters; they're relatable millennials navigating the complexities of life in London. Their journey towards adoption following a failed in vitro fertilization attempt is a rollercoaster of emotions that really struck a chord with me. The chemistry between Smith and Spall isn't merely good; it's palpably authentic, drawing audiences into their story with each episode ( they are a couple in real life, by the way).

Imelda Staunton, an esteemed figure in British cinema and television, delivers a stellar performance as Penny, the caseworker tasked with guiding Nikki and Jason through the adoption process. Staunton infuses Penny with her trademark brilliance, creating a character who is both endearing and indispensable to the show's narrative (but only in the first two seasons, unfortunately). Penny's blend of humor and unwavering support adds depth to the series, further enhancing its appeal.

My parents Adopted 4 children, and my father was a family court judge who often helped facilitate adoptions for others. Drawing from this personal experience with adoption and the stories he would tell us about caseworkers in his court, the challenges faced by Nikki and Jason feel remarkably genuine, while Penny's pragmatic yet compassionate perspective adds a layer of authenticity to the narrative.

Trying joins the ranks of other standout productions on Apple TV+, such as Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Lessons in Chemistry, all of which share a common thread of friendship, humor, and profound storytelling. Each episode of Trying is a powerful emotional journey, eliciting laughter, contemplation, and empathy in equal measure. It's more than just a recommendation; it's an invitation to embark on a deeply rewarding and unforgettable experience.
