Nora Mcinerny - Bad Vibes Only, Sole Sister Ramblers

Bad Vibes Only (Book) - Nomi's Pics

Naomi Weisman is a Canadian-Australian and mother of three, who loves to ramble with her dog, cook for family and friends, and laugh whenever possible.

In my car, I love listening to the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) on the radio. I often learn things that I would not otherwise know. Listening to an interview with Nora McInerny is a case in point.

Nora is a widow, a mother, an author, a public speaker, and a popular podcast host. I don’t typically listen to podcasts because I don’t like having headphones or earbuds in my ears. Subsequently, I am so out of the loop when it comes to podcasts that I find that I resist them. So, I looked up her books instead.

The book Bad Vibes Only: (and Other Things I Bring to the Table) is a series of excerpts from McInerney’s life that describe difficult and often cringe-worthy times in a hilarious way. She discusses toxic positivity, a term I had not heard before but often thought about in terms of social media, and how we usually only see the blissful aspects of people’s lives, not the crappy parts. It can sometimes be a turn-off to see how perfect everyone else is compared to ourselves, can’t it?

Her writing is so relatable and honest. She discusses her faults and triumphs and invites us to think of ourselves in those terms as well. Over the last year, during some of Sole Sister Ramblers' online conversations, we have talked about embracing our flaws and attributes.

McInerny lays herself out there to show us that she is a multidimensional human being with warts and all. I simply love that. So much so that I started listening to her podcast (without earbuds) called Terrible Thanks for Asking.

I have only listened to two episodes, but in them, she shares her thoughts and experiences on a given theme, and then she shares other people’s stories who have written into the show. This show has heart and humor, two elements that speak to me and the kind of content I typically allow into my life.

If you want to laugh and learn, this book and this podcast are for you!

We'd love to hear about your bad vibes delivered lovingly in the comments.

A big thumbs up!
