Yellowstone, 1883 & 1923 (TV Series) - Nomi's Pics

Naomi Weisman is a Canadian-Australian and mother of three, who loves to ramble with her dog, cook for family and friends, and laugh whenever possible.

From the beginning, I have been hooked on the Yellowstone TV Series and its offshoots. Although I find Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, and Cole Hauser, unnecessarily hyperbolic and graphically violent at times, it is captivating. The actors are well-suited to their roles and are believable.

The first offshoot is 1883, starring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (real-life husband and wife) and Isabel May, whom I feel steals the show. It is also very violent and brutal to watch at times. Still, it reveals an extraordinary time in American history about Western expansion.

The third offshoot, 1923, starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, as well as Brandan Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer, is far less violent, and the acting is top-notch. Harrison Ford plays the family patriarch to Helen Mirren's matriarch; as you can imagine, they are superb in their roles. Interestingly, Isabel May is the narrator for 1923, a lovely connection to the previous generation of Duttons in 1883.

I am recommending 1923, but with a caveat. If you are averse to violence and cannot handle Yellowstone or 1883, then 1923 might not be for you. Without the other two series' back stories, I don't know if you will be as invested in it.
