Naomi Weisman is a Canadian, Australian and mother of three, who loves to Ramble with her dog, cook for family and friends, and laugh whenever possible.
From Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan comes Landman, a high-octane series set deep in the heart of West Texas oil country—and it has all the grit, swagger, and slow-burning tension we've come to expect from his work.
At the center of it all is Billy Bob Thornton, who absolutely shines. As the slick, street-smart fixer, he commands every scene with a blend of charm, danger, and hard-earned wisdom. He's the kind of character you want to both high-five and run from—and Thornton plays him to perfection.
Like Yellowstone, Landman isn’t just about power plays and big money—it weaves in complex family dynamics, political undercurrents, and surprisingly sharp social commentary. The stakes are personal and political, and the show does a solid job of reminding us that oil isn't just a commodity—it's a way of life, and often a burden.
A couple of caveats: The violence can be intense and frequent, so if you're squeamish, prepare yourself. And while the men are written with nuance and depth, the women are... less so. Too many are relegated to bimbo status, background roles, or eye candy, and it's a missed opportunity for a show that otherwise takes on weighty themes.
Still, Landman is compelling, well-acted, and rich with Texas-sized drama. If you’re a fan of Yellowstone, or just looking for a modern Western with brains and brawn, this one’s worth your time. Just don’t expect a revolution when it comes to gender roles.
