So, I have an eclectic taste in what I like to watch, read, and listen to, but this book is a departure. I gravitate towards historical fiction, travelogues, or nonfiction books. Still, a friend lent me this book, so I dove in.
Does anyone out there in Sole Sister Rambler land like romantic comedies? For me, every once in a while, it is just what the doctor ordered; a wonderful way to be diverted from everyday life stressors. Well, Book Lovers by Emily Henry is a romantic comedy in book form.
The main protagonist, Nora, is a successful literary agent in Manhattan with a problematic track record at maintaining romantic relationships. She is 100% focused on her career and refuses to put her phone away, even on a date.
Nora’s sister Libby is the opposite. She is artistic, flighty, and pregnant with her 3rd child when she asks Nora to go away on a month-long holiday with her. These two sisters are as thick as thieves, and Nora has difficulty saying no to Libby, even at the best of times. So off they go to a small town in South Carolina, a place from one of their favorite books.
Enter Charlie, the male protagonist. I do not want to spoil any of what transpires, but if you are familiar with typical rom-com plotlines, you will likely figure out what happens next. But what is lovely about this book is the banter between the characters and how the relationships develop between them all. Emily Henry can describe what the characters look like, smell like, and their personalities are fully fleshed out.
This book should do the trick if you are looking for a great summer page-turner. Let me know what you think of it!
