Snacklebox, Anyone? - Dale Jensen, Sole Sister Ramblers

Snacklebox, Anyone? - Dale Jensen

Dale Jensen is an avid rambler by hike, bike, and paddle, a mother of two amazing adults, and a college and multicultural English instructor from Vancouver Island, Canada. She has a remarkable zest for life and a quirky, fun sense of humor.

"Charcuterie, anyone?"

It should be said with a pinky in the air and any accent other than your own. (P.S. I don't have an accent; you have an accent!) But really, who doesn't love it when the charcuterie board comes out?

From your basic crackers-and-cheese plate to those impressive works of art that make you wonder how they made that salami look like a rose, there's something for everyone, and they are universally loved. Portability though? Not so much.

Enter the Snacklebox—all the benefits of a charcuterie board with the added bonus of enjoying it while out rambling on the trails or in a kayak.

How to Assemble

Step One: Buy a fishing tackle box. I suggest comparing the measurements listed online with your favorite backpack's available space. I got my tackle—soon to be snackle—box at Canadian Tire. I recommend getting one with removable dividers to accommodate different Snacklebox themes or available supplies.

Step Two: Fill it with whatever charcuterie board treats you like!

Martha Stewart enthusiasts might want to tell you'll want something hard, medium, and soft. I like to have a variety of shapes and textures with a mix of salty, sweet, and sour options. Some ideas are cheeses, crackers, cured meats, olives, pickles, nuts, and dried fruit - just remember the chocolate! If you want to get messy, add some dips or spreads. But, it’s your Snacklebox, put whatever you want in there!

Toothpicks are also handy when rambling without a knife and fork.

Step 3: Take your snacklebox on a ramble with some Sole Sisters and you will become instantly famous! Bonus points if you find some cheese named after one of the ramblers in the group.
