Ursula Weiss - Rambler Profile, Sole Sister Ramblers

Ursula Weiss 🇨🇦 - Rambler Profile

Ursula Weiss is a 58-year-old Canadian born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and lives in Ladysmith, British Columbia.

I’m a first-generation Canadian, born in Manitoba but raised in beautiful British Columbia. My love for hiking and the great outdoors was instilled in me by my father, who immigrated to Canada in 1956 from Berlin just before the wall went up. He was incredibly grateful to be in Canada and always prioritized exploring our stunning landscapes with his young family during every spare moment.

Where is your favorite place to ramble, and why do you love it?

I grew up in a village called Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island during my preteen and teen years. One of my favorite places to ramble was and still is Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. Hiking there transports me back in time to family outings, picnic lunches, swimming adventures, and mushroom picking. There is
never a time when I don’t feel my parents’ presence, making it a truly happy place for me!

What five words would you use to describe yourself?

Kind
Spontaneous
Silly
Creative
Authentic

What advice would you give your younger self?

I recently read Brené Brown’s book The Gifts of Imperfection, which asks us to “let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embrace who you are.” This resonates deeply with me and has become a guiding principle as I navigate my 50s. It is advice I often share with young people.

Also...

When I speak with my adult children, I often reflect on the many times I've experienced loneliness in my life. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of isolation, especially now with the constant barrage of social media and comparison surrounding us. However, a wise friend recently encouraged me to check in with myself and ask, “When was the last time I was the INVITER? When did I create the opportunity for friendship and connection?”

Isn’t it poignant that Sole Sisters came into my life at just the right moment?

What is the best thing that happened to you recently?

The best thing that’s happened to me recently, within the last five years, has been buying a dilapidated 34-foot sailboat and refurbishing it! Sailing is where I feel most at peace. When those sails go up, and everything becomes quiet on the water except for the wind, I’m reminded of the miraculous forces in the
world that I know so little about.

My favorite quote

“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles.” ~Audrey Hepburn

So is so nice to get to know you, Ursula. I love the quotes that guide you and that you share them with young people. Also, I admire your passion for sailing. It must be so satisfying to know that you refurbished your boat on your own.

Hi Ursula. Loved your profile. Little Qualicum Falls is my favourite happy place too ! I camped there every summer growing up. Buying and fixing up a sailboat sounds like an amazing adventure!
