Naomi Weisman is a Canadian, Australian and mother of three, who loves to ramble with her dog, cook for family and friends, and laugh whenever possible.
Since arriving home from a month in Australia two weeks ago, I have been physically exhausted and sick with a head cold. So, to say that I am getting virtually nothing of any substance done would be a fair statement. I have walked my dog, hosted a Passover dinner, grocery shopped, read some books, cleaned my house . . . and binge-watched shows.
Love Life is one of the shows that caught my attention for its light-hearted but heartfelt nature. There are two seasons with ten episodes each. The first season stars Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) and Zoe Chao. Darby (Kendrick) and Sarah (Chao) are friends and roommates in their twenties trying to figure life out in New York City. Each episode follows different stages in their lives, touching on careers, credit card debt, first-love heartache, addiction, and dating. Elements of their personalities and characters are revealed that show personal growth while they are muddling through life.
The second season, starring William Jackson Harper and Jessica Williams (Shrinking), is a more layered version of season one. It follows the love life of Marcus Watkins, an African American book editor. His first marriage to his college sweetheart is derailed when he meets Mia Hines at a party. Although nothing happens sexually between them, an affair of the heart through text and email transpires and exposes a complacency that has grown in his marriage.
This show highlights the journey of self-discovery traveled in our lives through the people we meet and our relationships. It delves into the complexities of being single, a woman with agency, what it means to be a man, and what a good partner looks like. Along with all this is a dose of humor with lots of corny thrown in for good measure.
If you are looking for a change of pace from all of the crime dramas and violence of some other shows, Love Life might be just what you need. It is a very relatable, feel-good show that was just what the doctor ordered!
