Salad Bar - Rambling Style Files

Rambling essentials from fashion to recipes to gear and everything in between. Style Files is the creation of Jill Cohen Morris, an avid rambler, mother of two from Toronto, Canada with a remarkable zest for life, a fabulous sense of humor and remarkable style (of course).

Hey, Sole Sisters!

It’s time for my rambling life style files, where I discuss all things rambling, from fashion to recipes to gear and everything in between.

It’s the summer, at least on my side of the world. I love summertime… my life seems to move at a much slower pace. Or at least it did before I discovered rambling, pickleball, canasta, mahjong, and now golf!! I have no time for anything anymore. Both my kids are home from University and working. All of a sudden I have four people to feed and I also love to entertain.

The eternal question … how to find the time for everything?

The answer … preplanning and a salad bar!!

I know I have said this before, however here goes… I can cook but I don’t like it. I’m even a good cook, still not my thing.

I love creating an at-home salad bar. Why?  I prepare everything ahead so I am not stuck in the kitchen when entertaining. Everyone gets to build their salad just how they like it. It's healthy and even the pickiest eaters are happy.

Here are some tasty options you could include:

  • Greens as a base -mixed greens, spinach, arugula, romaine lettuce, kale.
  • Vegetables - cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, bell peppers (red, green, yellow), shredded carrots, sliced radishes, red onions, green onions, avocado chunks, artichokes, hearts of palm
  • Proteins - grilled chicken strips, boiled eggs (sliced or chopped), chickpeas, tofu cubes, turkey bacon, edamame
  • Cheeses - crumbled feta, grated parmesan, shredded cheddar, goat cheese, vegan cheeses
  • Berries - blueberries, strawberries
  • Toppings - toasted nuts, slivered almonds, dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, dried fruit, olives
  • Dressings: lemon vinaigrette, green goddess, olive oil and balsamic vinegar

The possibilities are endless!!

A salad bar is so much more than food. Guests can chat, mix and match ingredients, and share their favorite salad combos. It’s a relaxed way to enjoy good food and good company and create memorable moments around the table.

As an added bonus, with all the colours, your table will look gorgeous!!

What do you like to put in your salads? Would love to hear.

Happy Rambling!
