My Favorite Smoothie - Rambling Style Files

Rambling essentials from fashion to recipes to gear and everything in between. Style Files is the creation of Jill Cohen Morris, an avid rambler and mother of two from Toronto, Canada, with a remarkable zest for life, a fabulous sense of humor, and remarkable style (of course).

Hey Sole Sisters,

It's time for my rambling style files, where I discuss all things rambling from fashion to recipes to gear and everything in between.

Today, I'm sharing my favorite smoothie. Just because it’s my favorite smoothie doesn’t mean it’s yours, so feel free to get creative and substitute any of the ingredients.

I like a high-fiber protein powder, but any protein powder will work. Protein is very important for women as we age. It helps our bodies stay strong, and there's evidence that women in midlife and beyond benefit from higher protein, primarily because it helps build and maintain muscle.

I also like using powdered peanut butter, which has about a quarter the calories of all-natural peanut butter. I’m not much of a calorie counter, but if there is a viable lower-calorie option, I will take it.

I use frozen strawberries and bananas, and I just discovered frozen pitted cherries  - delicious. They're also good on their own as an after-dinner treat.

While I’m on the subject of after-dinner treats, have you ever tried frozen grapes? Stick some grapes in the freezer . . .  The best candy!! Sorry, I digress. LOL. Back to the smoothie.

I use one cup of unsweetened almond milk. You can substitute water or any kind of milk. Some people prefer cashew milk or oat milk because it’s creamier. One cup of liquid is my rule.

If you want to get fancy, you can add flax seeds, maple syrup to sweeten, and a spoonful of granola on top. I will share my granola recipe another time. It's super easy and so much better than store-bought!

I like to have my smoothie after a ramble. It is super filling, and I don’t like rambling on a full stomach. To me, it’s a post-ramble treat—something to look forward to.

I hope you enjoy it! If you have a favorite smoothie recipe, please feel free to share it in the comments. I’m always looking for new recipes.
